Another initiative that shares some common ground with Weave is the Mozilla Mobile project, which aims to bring the Firefox web browser to PDAs, cell phones, and other handled devices.W When Mozilla first announced its mobile initiative, it is expressed skepticism by most people. Especially, its competitors like Opera and WebKit appear better suited for environments with constrained system resources.
So how does the Mozilla initiative relate to Weave? The ability to shift browser metadata and state information onto the web will finally make it possible for users to transition seamlessly between desktop and mobile Firefox instances. A big part of the challenge will be finding ways to bring the user’s personalized Firefox experience to a multitude of form factors and have it translate over in a way that is intuitive for users.
The developer of Mozilla, Sullivan tells us that Mozilla is seeking for ways to facilitate that level of integration. Moreover, Mozilla offers a real web experience in mobile contexts without having to compromise the user's privacy or distort and reformat content. Mozilla will also work on user interface innovation to increase the usability of mobile browsing. However, the mobile project is still at the early stage of development and a lot of work remains before its ready for use.
